In the New Hampshire Primary on January 10, 2012, I will cast my vote for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
I voted for Romney in the
2008 Primary for several reasons: his grasp of the war in Iraq, his business experience and, notably, because he wasn’t John McCain–because I knew McCain would never win the general election.
This time around, I had a much more difficult time making a decision. There are many quality candidates running for the GOP nomination this year. While many of them exhibit leadership and articulate conservative principles, I just don’t believe that the majority of them have an honest chance at beating President Obama in a one-on-one match up.
I’ve watched all the debates and I’ve investigated all the candidates and, in the end what pushed me solidly into the Romney camp was one thing: I believe Mitt Romney is the only candidate running who can beat Barack Obama in November.
As with any candidate, I don’t agree with Mitt Romney on every issue–much like I didn’t four years ago–but I believe he’s the best person to lead America out of this economic uncertainty and back in to prosperity. He may or may not bring the sweeping change that some wish would reshape Washington, but he will bring the kind of leadership the Oval Office currently lacks.
A lot has happened in the last four years. I’ve lost a home and a job. I found one job at 40% of what I used to make and then had a better job find me. After all of that, I still know I’m one of the lucky ones in this economy. There are people out there who have been out of work for three years–and they need someone on their side who believes in the excellence and exceptionalism of America.
For the last four years, we’ve had a Lecturer-in-Chief who seems to want to tell everyone how an economy should work–and he’s never held an actual job. What he believes he knows about the economy, he’s learned about from people in classrooms. How far has that gotten us on the road to economic recovery? America simply cannot afford four more years of the Obama Administration. We need someone who gives us the best shot to make Obama a one-term President.
I believe that person is Mitt Romney. When I go to the polls on January 10, 2012, I will gladly cast my vote for him.
