Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA) officially announced his candidacy for President of the United States on his website today.
Gingrich, using President Obama’s own “Win The Future” slogan, reportedly will appear early and often in the early Primary states and campaign aggressively.
He’ll have to. As solidly Conservative as Newt is, he has very high negatives. People either love or hate him–and those are just the people on the Right side of the aisle. New Hampshirites in particular will take him to task for a number of things both inside and outside the realm of Politics and Government–and all of those criticisms will be 100% justified.
The other problem is that there is no buzz for Newt. Zero. It seems the only people really taking an interest in his run are the people writing about it. The names being talked about here are familiar ones: Romney, Santorum, Pawlenty, Cain…even Trump. Gingrich isn’t one of them. He runs the danger of going all “Fred Thompson” on New Hampshire and, if he does, he’ll make Ron Paul look like William the Conquerer.
Gingrich has a very difficult road ahead in New Hampshire and he can’t afford to make a misstep here.
