Now that I’m awake, that was the worst “debate” I’ve ever seen. In fact…check that…it wasn’t a debate, it was a game show. A really, really bad game show.
Chris Matthews was a dreadful moderator. He can’t even keep control of his own show–what made MSNBC think he could moderate a debate with ten contestants?!?!? There were far too many people on that stage with guys who aren’t even polling at 1%. That’s just ridiculous.
If you’re not polling at 10%, you shouldn’t be on that stage. You don’t have a shot. Go. Home.
That said, I thought Mitt and Rudy were the strongest with Tommy Thompson looking particularly good, also—for what it’s worth and, by that, I mean to say it’s hard to look strong in a debate where your answers are limited in tens of seconds.
Here’s the long and short of it: The three guys leading all did OK. The seven guys who are desperate for camera time are all still desperate for camera time. I’m so glad I didn’t decide to live-blog this thing and, if I had, I’d have needed plenty of potent potables.
I’m hoping to have a seat at the debate in June that’s practically in my back yard. I live a mere stone’s throw from the grounds of St. Anselm’s College in New Hampshire where the next contest will take place and should be in attendance.
