This is so good I had to share it with all of you.
The Concord (NH) Monitor recently published a blurb asking for readers to write in with opinions on what they thought the biggest eyesores were in New Hampshire’s capitol city.
Their responses were pretty standard, but I think you’ll agree that there’s one that stands out. I’ve added emphasis to the best one on the list…
We’re asking readers to identify the worst eyesores in and around Concord. Here are some of the responses we’ve received so far, including two votes for pigeon poop and one for a pigeon whose pooping days are over:
“The dead pigeon on the Manchester Street median strip. It has been there since last summer and is now reduced to a few feathers and skeletal remains.” Valerie David
“Hands down, the biggest eyesore in Concord is the state employment services building on South Main Street.” Miiko Squires
“The large house on North State Street across from the prison that burned awhile ago.” Heidi Albee
“How about the filthy pigeon dropping mess under the I-93 overpass on Manchester Street?” Byron Hodgkins
“If you’ve ever taken a walk down South Main Street past the Common Man and then under the overpass to cross the Manchester Street bridge . . . you’ll be greeted with a mass amount of pigeon poop on the once beautiful walkway that goes under the overpass. It’s a horrible way to greet anyone coming into the city, and it’s disgusting for walkers. The same goes for the walkway under the overpass off Exit 14.” Diana R. Merrill
“Hillary Clinton.” Neal Wells
“The new building on Main Street where Sears use to be. It looks stupid. With all the nice old buildings on the street, they come up with that?” Peg Bastien
I’m still laughing. The fact that the Monitor let that go to press astonishes me because they’re such a liberal rag. I hope you all enjoyed the chuckle. Neal Wells is my hero.
Oh, and for the record–and for those of you who just don’t know–it’s pronounced KAHN-kurd. ![]()
