Amazing…

I just took the highly non-scientific ABC News poll on the Boston/Turner Ad Debacle from yesterday. I am stunned at the results. I thought this would have been a no brainer. Man, was I wrong…

The authorities overreacted?? You have got to be kidding me.
The job of our first responders is to do just that: respond. When they do, they have to assume that it’s in the face of certain and potentially mortal danger. As a society, we’ve been conditioned to report things that look suspicious since September 11, 2001—and that’s just what people in Boston did.
Something looked wrong and Boston Police, Fire and EMS had no way to know that this was part of a guerilla advertising campaign. While I’ve heard of the Mooninites and ATHF (and find the show very funny), a lot of people haven’t.
There is no such thing as an overreaction when it comes to ensuring public safety.
Thankfully, this event turned out to be nothing. There was only one way to ascertain that, however, and the folks in Boston did one hell of a job. Each time they respond to a call, they must assume that it’s a legitimate danger and treat each report seriously.
Hell, isn’t that why they’re the first responders?
The people who think that local, state and federal authorities are to blame for this scare are idiots.
