My Kingdom For a Horse?…

So I’m at work today, and I fire up my Firefox browser. As my default set of tabs, I have all the major news websites: Drudge, ABCNews.com, MSNBC.com, CBSNews.com, FOXNews.com, CNN.com. At the time I opened the browser, all of the above mentioned sites had the following breaking news banner in one form or another:
BREAKING NEWS: KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER BARBARO EUTHANIZED THIS MORNING, OWNER SAYS.
WHAT?!?! This is major news?!?!
OK, I get that the horse won the Kentucky Derby and was expected to win the Preakness Stakes before breaking three bones in a hind leg. I get that.
What the hell is the big deal??
It’s a frigging horse. Was this really so important that it had to be classified as “breaking news?”
We’ve got our bravest Americans–those who volunteer to put on the uniform of the United States of America and defend our very way of life–being assassinated by terrorists and homicidal bombers in Iraq and where the hell is the breaking news on that?
How the hell is it that a HORSE gets better and more press than United States soldiers.
What. The. Fuck??
Yeah, you heard me. I dropped the F-bomb on my own blog—something I don’t like doing.
You know, it’s nice that the elitist members of the Main Stream Media can take time out of their coverage of “How Iraq is a Quagmire like VietnamTM” to tell us of something truly important. I am so thankful that the professionals of the Main Stream Media are the guardians of information in our society and that they take that responsibility seriously.
Bullshit.
The responsibility the Media has abdicated is one of pursuing the truth. Instead they pursue their agenda.
There was no breaking news alert for Pfc. Nathan P. Fairlie of Candor, NY.
There was no breaking news alert for Cpl. Mark D. Kidd of Milford, MI.
There was no breaking news alert for Pfc. Darrell W. Shipp of San Antonio, TX.
There was no breaking news alert for SSgt. Hector Leija of Houston, TX.
There was no breaking news alert for Sgt. 1st Class Keith A. Callahan of McClure, PA.
There was no breaking news alert for Sgt. Michael M. Kashkoush of Chagrin Falls, OH.
There wasn’t even a breaking news alert for Army Command Sgt. Maj. Marilyn L. Gabbard of Polk City, IA. Command Sgt. Maj. Gabbard was the first woman promoted to the rank of command sergeant major in the Iowa Army National Guard.
That’s just since January 20th of this year. I’m willing to bet that there weren’t any breaking news alerts for the other 3,388 American heroes killed in the line of duty, either. I mean, we’re never going to hear any of the good news that comes out of Iraq. However, for the euthanizing of a horse to get more prominent coverage…well…that just absolutely disgusts me to no end.
Here’s the only headline that should have existed, and it should have been in the Business section, not a breaking news alert:
ALPO, ELMER’S SIGN DEAL FOR BARBARO.
It’s a horse, people. I wish the MSM understood that. Well, I guess they understood a lot of things. That’s precisely the reason why blogs aren’t going away anytime soon.
