Citing the fallout from his “botched joke” and the desire to be re-elected to his U.S. Senate seat, John Kerry (D-MA) announced today that he would not seek his party’s nomination as the Democrat candidate for President of the United States in 2008.
This brings to a close the longest Presidential campaign ever, since John Kerry has been running for President since sometime in 2003. When he lost the election in November 2004, he didn’t stop running. That is, until this afternoon.
“We came close…certainly close enough to be tempted to try again,” the Massachusetts senator said, recalling his defeat. “There are powerful reasons to want to continue that fight now. But I have concluded this isn’t the time for me to mount a presidential campaign.”
This may not be the time, but it’s not because Kerry wants to focus on his role in the Senate.
The reason John Kerry isn’t running for President anymore is because he doesn’t have the juice to beat Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. With him polling right at 1% right now, there is no way he could raise enough money or votes to beat either of the Democrats two “golden children.”
THAT’S why Kerry isn’t running for President any longer. I’m sure he’s got a plan for this somewhere on JohnKerry.com, but I’m sure no one will be able to find the damned thing.
