According to the Associated Press, an anonymous source says that Republican National Committee chariman Ken Mehlman will step down from his post in January. His rumored resignation follows a series of stinging defeats for Republicans in Tuesday’s Mid-Term Elections.
FOXNews.com | Politics | RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman to Step Down in January, GOP Officials Say
Look, it’s no surprise that Mehlman is going to step down at the end of his term. The GOP lost both houses of Congress under Mehlman’s tenure and, inside the Beltway, this is the kind of thing that happens following such a defeat. If the Democrats had lost on Tuesday, Howard Dean would be gone. That’s just the way these things go.
Mehlman has served the party well and the defeats this past Tuesday aren’t the fault of the RNC. He’s falling on his sword because he’s expected to and nothing more. There will likely be a few more political sacrifices in the coming months. None of them will be a shock, but the MSM will spin them as “Republicans in turmoil.”
