The United Nations Security Council today voted 15-0 today on Resolution 1718, imposing various sanctions on “Yoko Ono” and North Korea for it’s “nuclear” test earlier this week. John Bolton, US Ambassador to the United Nations, called the vote “a clear and strong message” to the NorKs.
*blah blah blah*
Yeah…it doesn’t do a thing. Much like the Security Council itself, this resolution has no balls.
From the Associated Press, via MyWay News:
UNITED NATIONS (AP) – The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously on Saturday to impose punishing sanctions on North Korea for its claimed nuclear test, declaring that its action posed “a clear threat to international peace and security.”
The vote came after the United States, Britain and France overcame last-minute differences with Russia and China.
The resolution demands North Korea eliminate all its nuclear weapons but expressly rules out military action against the country – a demand by the Russians and Chinese. The Americans also eliminated a complete ban on the sale of conventional weapons; instead, the resolution limits the embargo to major hardware such as tanks, warships, combat aircraft and missiles.
Resolution 1718 sends the “clear and strong message” that no one is going to do a damned thing if North Korea goes forward with more nuclear tests.
The Security Council couldn’t even agree on sanctions, for crying out loud! And what was Bolton doing agreeing to eliminate a ban on the sale of conventional weapons? Pardon me for saying so but I don’t want North Korea selling weapons of any kind because they’re most likely going to be used in Iraq against our troops!
Resolution 1718 is a joke, and so is the United Nations. The only thing they are united in is their mutual emasculation.
