Cindy Sheehan is Full of Crap…

Cindy Sheehan was in Austin, Texas, signing copies of her new book, “Peace Mom” yesterday. She announced at the signing that she was a finalist for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
Hooray for Cindy.
Problem is, the Nobel Foundation doesn’t release that data.
According to the Nobel Prize website, 191 names were submitted for the Peace Prize alone–and 23 of those were organizations. Unless whomever nominated Sheehan leaked the info, she would have no way to know she was even nominated and she certainly would not ever know if she had been a finalist.
Why is that, you ask? Simple: information regarding this year’s prize won’t be released by the Nobel Foundation for another fifty years.

Information about the nominations, investigations, and opinions concerning the award is kept secret for fifty years.

What about the rumors circling around the world about certain people being nominated for the Nobel Prize this year?

Well, either it’s just a rumor, or someone among the invited nominators has leaked out information. Since the nominations are kept secret for 50 years, you’ll have to wait until then to find out.

So, unless Cindy Sheehan knows someone in the Nobel Foundation who is leaking informatoin–which isn’t very likely–she’s got no business saying she was a finalist. She’s absolutely full of crap. There is no way she could know whether she was or not.
Here’s a tip, Cindy: if you want to win the Nobel Peace Prize some day you might actually do something that promotes peace. Last I knew, protesting the Iraq war and the Bush Administration was hardly a qualification.
