I’ve avoided commenting on the whole Israel/Lebanon thing because…well…is anyone really surprised that there’s fighting going on in this neck of the woods? I mean, forget the fact that Israel is absolutely justified in going after Hezbollah and wanting their soldiers back. When was the last time there was any kind of lasting peace in this region? I know it hasn’t happened in my lifetime and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t ever happened.
The first thing I’m annoyed by is the fact that now it’s apparently the responsibility of the United States Government to rescue Americans who’ve chosen to go to Beirut. Not only that, but the Bush Administration is also being criticized for responding as slowly as it did to Hurricane Katrina.
Now, excuse the heck out of me, but it is NOT the responsibility of the Government to rescue these idiots who’ve gone to Lebanon despite travel advisories from the U.S. State Department dating back to last year. These ingrates have the gall to criticize the Marines being put in harm’s way to save their whiny asses. Incredible.
We should absolutely bill these people for their rescues. You know, much in the same way that we charge people with the costs of their search and rescue when they get lost in the mountains.
The other thing that gets me is the fact that some überLibs are now blaming George W. Bush for the current violence in the Middle East. I mean, you knew it was going to happen eventually, but it’s still a little shocking that it’s happening at all.
Such is the case over at the Huffington Post where Martin Garbus makes such a claim. In an essay titled, “Why Bush is to Blame for the Israel-Lebanon Deaths,” Mr. Garbus says that the Bush Administration’s lack of diplomacy is responsible for the deaths in that region and will lead to a larger war.
I’m sorry, but is Garbus living on the same planet as the rest of us? He acts as though there has never been violence between Muslims and Jews in the history of the planet. If you believe his premise, this problem is five years old at best and is all because Bush has abandoned diplomacy of any kind.
I’m going to respectfully disagree with Garbus–and I say “respectfully” because the guy is a lawyer who is suing both Eminem and George W. Bush. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton bent over for Hezbollah and the PLO at every turn. That’s supposed to be diplomacy? Martin Garbus’ view of the world is slanted at best–and that’s the nicest thing I can say about it.
But, I don’t want to be nice, so I’m just going to say that Garbus is full of crap. (That, and I love Eminem.)
Perhaps Martin Garbus should now look for a way to tie George W. Bush to everything else that’s been going on. I’m sure he could find a way to tie him to the assassination of John Kennedy, as well as link Bush to the Olympic Park Bomber and to the Tylenol Scare of the 1980′s.
Oh, give it time. It’ll happen, I’m sure.
