I wrote a column which appears in today’s Manchester (NH) Union Leader. (Page A9 of the print edition, for those of you with the hard copies.)
Some backstory for you to set the stage—this past fall, in what proved to be a huge upset, Manchester voted in a new mayor who ran on a lower taxes/lower spending platform. True to his word, the new mayor submitted a budget that did both things. The Board of Alderman in the city wouldn’t have any of that, so they eventually restored the “cuts.” (I use “cuts” in quotations because they were really decreases in the amount of increased spending—an overall increase over the previous budget year.)
Below is the link to my column. There were a few edits to my original submission and they didn’t use the headline I originally suggested: “Reality” a foreign concept for Democrat Aldermen.
Manchester Union Leader | Opinion | William Smith: Ten Manchester aldermen need a dose of reality
I don’t usually discuss local politics here, but I figured some of you might like to read it.
