Al Gore. Movie Star?
Hard as it may seem to believe, the former Vice President and candidate for the Oval Office can be seen on movie screens nationwide in his film, “An Inconvenient Truth.” eleased on May 24, Gore’s documentary on the theory of global warming has pulled in $2,070,413 as of this writing.
That’s just what it is, too: a theory.

Global warming is a theory that’s been propagated as fact for nearly 20 years, and the dirty little secret about it is that there’s not even a consensus on it in the scientific community. Further, according to some in the field, there hasn’t even been a serious debate on the issue of global warming.
Bill Gray is Professor Emeritus of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Gray is also head of the Tropical Meterology Project at Colorado State’s Department of Atmospheric Sciences. Dr. Gray is one of the world’s foremost experts on hurricanes and tropical storms. Sadly, though, he’s also viewed as a pariah for his stance on global warming.
Put simply, the good doctor thinks we’ve all been brainwashed.
In an interview by David Harsanyi appearing in the Denver Post, Gray says whole global warming iw nothing but a scam:
“They’ve been brainwashing us for 20 years,” Gray says. “Starting with the nuclear winter and now with the global warming. This scare will also run its course. In 15-20 years, we’ll look back and see what a hoax this was.”
Gray directs me to a 1975 Newsweek article that whipped up a different fear: a coming ice age.
“Climatologists,” reads the piece, “are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change. … The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.”
Here we have one of the world’s chief authorities saying that global warming is a myth…and apparently there are plenty of other experts who agree with him. Al Gore is no expert by any stretch of the imagination, and here he is starring in a major motion picture documentary spewing his gloom and doom to do nothing but scare the masses.
So, who is right? Well, the answer is…no one knows. No one.
Is global warming plausible? Sure. It’s also entirely possible that any slight warming that has occurred can be attributed to increased carbon dioxide and other naturally occurring gasses in the atmosphere. It’s also entirely possible that this is a slight warming trend and may be a precursor to a cooling trend.
No one knows.
NO ONE KNOWS.
There isn’t enough recorded data in human history to figure this out and anything that anyone can come up with is just a theory.
Does it mean that we shouldn’t try to be good stewards of the Earth and reduce things like fossil fuel emissions and the like? No, of course not. It makes perfect sense to do as much as we can to treat the Earth with respect and to preserve this planet for future generations.
What it does mean, though, is that we shouldn’t take this alarmist, paranoia-enducing myth as fact and start turning in our air conditioners and junking our cars without asking all kinds of questions and making people back up their claims with facts that all the experts can agree on. My lib friends will still think I’m a viscious, Earth-raping Republican who cares nothing for the planet simply because I haven’t bought into the theory hook, line and sinker. My question for them would be: since when has there been anything wrong with asking questions and wanting some agreement between the people who know a whole lot more than any of us?
As far as Al Gore is concerned, I kind of like the tactic the Oklahoma University College Republicans are using to combat his new film. The OU CR’s have taken to putting up “Global Cooling Days” complete with stands offering free snow cones. They are demonstrating absurdity with absurdity to encourage discussion of the issue.
Outstanding! Make mine black cherry, Sooners!
