ESPN.com – NFL – Vinatieri agrees in principle to deal with Colts
This is the last thing I expected.
My sister called me today and asked if I had heard. At the time, it was not being reported anywhere else except Boston radio stations WEEI-AM and WAAF-FM.
I’m just totally bummed.
I know I’ll get no sympathy from a lot of people. (Panthers fan Sister Toldjah comes to mind, among others.)
Adam Vinatieri has long since cemented his place in Boston/New England sports lore. The man is the single best clutch kicker in the history of the National Football League. The man is a legend in these parts and he can do no wrong in my eyes—I just wish he’d have stayed here where he has had his greatest success.
Besides, no one in Indy will spontaneously buy this man a drink! After three Super Bowl victories with a three point margin, I think everyone in the six state New England area owes Vinatieri at least one beer.
So long, Adam. Best of luck in Indianapolis…unless you’re playing New England, that is.
