Look…up in the sky! It’s the return of the STHs!
For those of you unfamiliar with the rules, I just can’t stomach most of the Sunday shows. I’ve found that the only ones I can really tolerate are NBC News’ Meet the Press and FOX News Sunday. I typically also skip the “Roundtable” segments on both shows.
Face the Nation? Dreadful.
Anything on CNN? You’re kidding, right?
This Week with George Stephanopolous? I’d rather drink latex paint—the kind with lead.
Besides, even the most serious political junkie has to have their priorities and…well…ESPN Sunday NFL Countdown is on at 11:00am. ![]()
We tee it up with FOX News Sunday, in Hi-Def, of course.
(NOTE: No time for MTP today, unfortunately.)

FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace
TOPIC: National Security, Iraq and Eavesdropping on Americans
GUEST: Condoleeza Rice, Secretary of State
Dr. Rice was making the rounds today, presumably because of the “eavesdropping” report by the New York Times. It was the first topic that Wallace asked her about and Rice spoke well on the topic, highlighting the Constitutionality of it all.
Wallace countered that previously the Executive Branch had to get warrants before to investigate Americans and Rice reiterated that this was done within the scope of the law. She stressed that this specifically dealt with communications going outside the United States to monitor for terrorism.
Wallace then asked if the adminstration was going to investigate who leaked this story to the Times. I think that answer is, “Hell, yes,” considering that this was a top secret endeavor. The underlying theme here is that the President has acted in accordance with the Constitution and the law and I doubt that’s how it’s going to sound tomorrow morning on the Editorial pages.
Did you know that eleven million people voted in Iraq? Some 70% of the population? I wish we could get those kind of numbers here, percentage wise. Wallace asked how do the Sunnis get bought in and how can they be given a stake at the table. Rice said that it’s up to the Iraqis and the Sunnis know that they had to give up violence to get a voice. Now they have representatives in the process and they’ll try to come to a government that is “broadly representative.”
Lightning Round!
Trial of Saddam: Rice thinks the judge has been very courageous in keeping the trial going forward.
Sanctions on Iran: This will likely wind up going to the UN Security Council.
Running for President: “That’s not my calling.”
What about VEEP: “We’ve got an awful lot of good people who can run at the top of the ticket and in the second spot. I’m somebody who wants to go back to California or maybe to the NFL.”
I’m not sitting around for Harry Reid. I want to keep my breakfast down. I gotta go Christmas shopping!
For the record, the Secretary of State likes the Redskins in today’s matchup against the arch-rival Dallas Cowboys.
