Catching Up…

OK, everyone. It’s feast or famine in the news cycle, and there’s a lot to cover today, so I’m going to touch on a few things briefly instead of 800 word treatments.

Harriet Miers Withdraws Nomination to SCOTUS
The Media Spin Machine is abuzz with Harriet Miers’ withdrawal of her nomination to the Supreme Court. The Democrats say it’s because the White House gave in to the pressure being put on them by the “extreme right wing” of the party. In fact, although I’ve not seen the memo, I’m sure that’s what was faxed around on the talking points today.
The reports say that she withdrew and the President reluctantly accepted her withdrawal, but that doesn’t ring right. A Supreme Court nominee doesn’t just withdraw their nomination without some pressure—and that’s only going to come from one place. I mean, who are we kidding?
So, Ms. Miers looks loyal to the President and the Democrats get the fight of their lives now. They were going to get someone they though they could live with…until this morning. Now, they get the fight the rest of us wanted—and they’re not going to like who Bush picks next.
You guys want a fight? OK. We’ve got one for you and it’s coming, baby. It’s coming.

Two Thousand Rant
Every time I turned around yesterday, I heard that number.
2,000.
It was treated as a milestone by the protesters and the media. And, while certainly a significant number, only one question comes to mind when I heard the coverage.
Where the hell were these people for the first 1,999 soldiers were killed?
So, it’s because it’s 2,000 that it’s significant or deserves highlighting? That’s a load of crap. Every single one of those soldiers who’ve given their lives in the line of duty has mattered. Every single drop of precious American blood that has been spilled has mattered. Not just the 2,000th. I’m sick of the righteous indignation of some of these protesters who need to draw attention to themselves and use the death of an American serviceman to do it.
These are the same people who say, “I support our troops, but I don’t support this war.” What? Excuse me? How the hell can you do that?!?!? Look…for those of you on the Left, this is really, really simple. You can’t support the troops and not support the war. Why is that? It’s their job.
Yes, that’s right…it’s the job of our soldiers to commit warfare on behalf of the United States of America. They kill people and destroy things and that’s the job they volunteer to do…and they volunteer to do these things so you can sit there with your Birkenstocks and your hemp necklaces and tell our men and women in uniform that you support them, but not what they do.
What a load of B.S.. You people kill me.

Plame-Gate
Is there anyone who cares about this case that is Outside-the-Beltway? Anyone at all?
[Insert sound of chirping crickets here]
Yeah, I didn’t think so. I know I don’t care about it at all, really, but it’s been blown into a huge mess. I haven’t seen so much backstabbing and unpleasantness in a very long time—-and that’s just at the New York Times.
The Special Prosecutor may announce indictments this week, and he may not. It’s anyone’s guess, but the Left is just dying for them to include Karl Rove. It will be like one continuous media orgasm if an indictment comes down with Rove’s name on it.
I would just caution them. An indictment is just that. It’s just an indictment. It’s not evidence of guilt and it’s not a guilty verdict by any means.
No one seems to be able to tell me how or why Joe Wilson can “out” his own wife a month before Bob Novak’s column and it doesn’t seem to matter, however.
No one seems to be able to tell me whether or not Valerie Plame was actually a covert operative, either.
However, until the indictments are announced, I still really don’t care a whole lot about this story.
